Gracious God, we pray for all persons suffering from war. May they be held in your loving care and protection and given the strength to endure great suffering and hardship. Transform the hearts and minds of all those who perpetuate violence and oppression. Grant wisdom to world leaders in advancing efforts toward world peace; may they not be compromised by self-interest and blind indifference. We ask all this through the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes and in the name of your Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. And I will continue this prayer I wrote for Lent every day until we have an end to this senseless war: Lord hear our prayer. As we watch women and children flee Ukraine saying tearful goodbyes to their husbands and fathers who are headed to battle, bless them and protect them so they can be reunited. Lord hear our prayer. The people of Ukraine seek peace. May peace be found. Lord hear our prayer. You have given the people of Ukraine a leader whose courage and determination make him a giant among men. Bless him and fill his heart with grace. Lord hear our prayer. Lord, we are but humble servants. Our existence is because of you and through you. We are nothing without you. Guide our hearts. Enlighten our leaders. Help us to unite in body and spirit with our brothers and sisters of Ukraine. Amen.
My mother was born in Ukraine in 1915 and sadly left in 1923. She suffered greatly during most of those years. People helped, so we are also trying to help.
